Investing in Potential: Cultivating Innovative Leaders in the Middle Market
What We Do
Waterfield Holdings primarily invests in middle market and lower middle market private equity transactions.
With a value based bias, Waterfield seeks opportunistic, control investment opportunities where its financial structuring acumen and network of industry experts can unlock value.
Our mission is to expand our asset base such that we can utilize our resources and influence to cultivate and support the next generation of leaders that will help make the world a better place.
Impact
Given that our mission is to expand our asset base such that we can utilize our resources and influence to cultivate and support the next generation of leaders that will help make the world a better place, Waterfield Holdings is highly focused on what positive impact we can make on our local communities, countries we operate in, as well as the world.
Our focus on impact manifests itself in several ways:
Politics
Young Presidents’ Organization
We are active in YPO, and encourage our portfolio company CEOs to be members of YPO.
As the 2017-2018 Chairman of YPO, Mr. Waterfield has seen first hand how YPO is a positive agent for progress in the world.
With over 35,000 members, YPO member companies have combined revenues over 9 trillion dollars, and are located in more than 140 countries.
Investments
We seek investments that are not only profitable, but will help shape our world in a positive manner.
Some recent examples of our efforts include:
Missouri Cobalt
Action Labor
We employ over 30,000 employees annually (one of the top ten employers in the state of Florida), and while many of our employees are skilled experts in their field, we also create employment opportunities through specific programs for refugees, veterans, single mothers, the homeless, and other sometimes disadvantaged Americans.
Environmental Risk Transfer
Environmental Risk Transfer (ERT) provides complex environmental risk-transfer solutions to corporations that wish to cost-effectively eliminate all environmental liability.
ERT’s relationships with the largest and most sophisticated financial institutions, legal experts and deep team of industry leading environmental engineers – means we combine our financial, operational, technical and risk management expertise to offer highly competitive long-term solutions that bring closure to environmental sites.
SMTC
SMTC is a midsize end-to-end electronics manufacturing services provider with facilities in Canada, Mexico, China, and the United States.
Electronics manufacturing requires the use of ultra-clean water, which is expensive to produce. When SMTC’s new facility in Melbourne, Florida, was opened in 2015, a closed loop water recycling system was installed.
The facility now saves approximately 3 million gallons of water a year, reducing water usage by 74 percent and cutting water cots and using less of the city’s water supply while meeting all local and federal effluent discharge limits.
Linden Lab
Linden Lab develops platforms that empower everyone to create virtual experiences. In 2003, we launched Second Life, the pioneering virtual world that’s been enjoyed by millions of people and seen billions of dollars transacted among users in its economy.
In 2019, we unveiled Tilia, a registered money services business and fully licensed money transmitter that powers virtual economies.
Linden Lab was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in San Francisco with an additional office in Atlanta.
Dynamic Protection Group (DPG)
Dynamic Protection Group Inc. is a New York State Licensed Private Investigation and Security Agency and has been in business since 2002. Having several years of industry experience, the company was founded with a mission to offer quality and safe services to individuals and businesses at competitive prices. Our workforce comprises of former law enforcement agents as well as military members who have extensive market knowledge and experience. All of our armed security guards are “off duty” or retired law enforcement professionals. Over the years, we have formed a strategic alliance with multiple businesses or public sector clients to whom we have offered innovative security solutions that focus on protection and prevention.
US Strategic Metals
USSM manages one of the largest cobalt reserves in North America, near the Madison Mine in Missouri.
US Strategic Metals (USSM) is a growing company that does two things well — recycling essential metals from old lithium-ion batteries and, as a commercial mine, extracting cobalt, nickel and copper for today and tomorrow’s sustainable energy sources.
When we created the company back in 2018, our aim was to disrupt the mining industry. Practices had to change. Technology had to be better. Sustainability had to be at the forefront. That’s why we’re committed to a healthy workplace, supply- chain transparency, conflict-free minerals and careful environmental stewardship.
We’re positioned to support America’s long-term green energy transition needs, like providing metals essential for batteries in electric vehicles. We have a nearly 18-year mineral supply on an 1,800-acre site with an additional 2,000 acres of nearby mining rights. Yeah, we’re excited.
